General Info

Oko Rye sits quietly at 29 Purchase St, Rye, NY 10580, yet once you step inside, it feels like a place locals have already claimed as their own. This Japanese restaurant balances a relaxed neighborhood vibe with thoughtful cooking, making it easy to settle in whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or planning a longer, unhurried meal.

The menu leans into Japanese comfort food while still showcasing refined technique. One of the standout experiences is the Chef’s Selection Nigiri 10 Pieces. Each piece arrives carefully prepared, highlighting clean flavors and fresh textures that make sushi lovers slow down and savor every bite. Sushi here feels intentional rather than flashy, which adds to the overall charm of the dining experience.

Beyond sushi, the kitchen delivers plenty of warm, satisfying dishes. The ramen egg is a small detail that makes a big impression-rich, perfectly cooked, and clearly prepared with care. Yakitori brings smoky, grilled depth to the table and works just as well as a shared plate or a main attraction. Crab & pork dumplings round things out with a comforting balance of savory filling and delicate wrappers, making them an easy favorite for first-time visitors and regulars alike.

The atmosphere adds to why people leave positive reviews. The space feels cosy without being cramped, making it suitable for casual dinners, low-key dates, or relaxed meetups with friends. Practical touches matter here too. The restaurant offers clean toilet facilities, accepts debit cards, and supports NFC mobile payments, which keeps things convenient and stress-free. For those driving in, a paid parking lot nearby makes visiting simpler, especially during busy dining hours.

What really stands out is how naturally everything comes together. From the approachable service to the well-paced meal, Oko Rye feels like a restaurant designed around real dining habits, not trends. It’s the kind of place where the menu invites repeat visits, the location fits easily into a day in Rye, and the overall experience feels genuine from start to finish.

“ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-Star Review Oko Rye delivers on every level. The food is not only beautifully presented but packed with flavor every dish feels intentional and elevated. From the perfectly executed hand rolls and fresh sushi to the tender, flavorful ribs and steak bites, everything we tried was on point and cooked to perfection. The cocktails were clean, refreshing, and well balanced, making them the perfect complement to the menu. Service was attentive and professional, and the atmosphere strikes that ideal balance between upscale and comfortable. Food, service, and vibe all hit five stars. Oko Rye is a must-visit and easily one of the best dining experiences in the area. ”

“ Cozy and intimate place. It looks like it seats 50 people including bar area. I want to give it a 3.5 star, but it is a place worth going. Open kitchen. It’s clean. Food was good. Some dishes better than others. We like the sake. The appetizer was good - blister shishito peppers - The nigiri was good - the sushi rice and pairing with the fish was a good combo. Robata was good. Salmon and pear was nicely done and paired together, wagyu beef was a little tough, mushroom and eggplant was ok. The beef and veggie- needed the pairing sauce. Temaki/ hand roll, we had 3 rolls salmon, tuna and scallops. They were ok. The fish was overly sauced. The crispy rice - beef and scallop. Typically my favorite, but the rice was overly crispy, made it too chewy. ”

“ Excellent food, nice service. Oko is a small, quiet place with excellent Japanese food. I recommend ordering the chef's choice of nigiri. I also recommend the spicy crispy salmon and tuna. It's an expensive place, but it's worth it for the quality, flavor and service. ”

“ Impressive food. Fantastic ambience and great service. We mistakenly had a reservation for Oko in Westport Connecticut, and they kindly accommodated us, as we were meeting for a birthday dinner. Had an amazing time sampling the different rolls (hamachi with spicy aoli was simply succulent), please try the out-of-this-world sweet potato gyoza, can't go wrong with the delicious hanger steak robata(skewers), and also had a superb poke bowl. Really highly recommend for both special occasions or casual dining. Great atmosphere, good vibes, nice crew, and most importantly the food really rocks. What else can you ask for? ”

“ Truly cannot speak more highly of Oko and the Okokase experience. The attention to detail Chef Christian and the entire team took was truly unmatched. Each course was better than the next and the casual setting made the food stand out that much more. If I could give more stars I would. ”

“ On our way home from another dinner we popped into Oko for a night cap. Everyone from the host, manager and bartender were all very welcoming. The open kitchen concept is awesome and great to look at when you’re sitting at the bar. Despite us only stopping in for a nightcap, the bartender (we forgot his name, but he had a really cool Scandavian tattoo) was so friendly and took the time to give us a menu tour despite him being busy. We ended up having a couple of the crispy Wagyu bites and a ricotta cheesecake. The sake paper plane is also SO good! We will definitely be back to try more of the core menu. Keep doing what you’re doing! ”

“ One of the best sushi experiences in Westchester. Amazing food, atmosphere and friendly staff. The flavors are sooo good. The CRUNCHY POTATO/MUSHROOM HAND ROLL is an absolute MUST! Do not skip this on the menu, the flavors really surprised us and quickly became a favorite of the evening. We ordered the scallop hand roll, many different pieces of sushi (black cod, king crab, scallop, etc) and ships chips and dip, but the CRUNCHY POTATO/MUSHROOM HAND ROLL blew us away! It was Smokey, crunchy, and full of flavor. Give it a try! . ”
